A study on the pulmonary function and lead levels in blood of fire fighters

Abstract
A study on the pulmonary function and lead levels in blood of 166 fire fighters was carried out analyzing the interviewed questionnaires the results obtained were as follows.
1. There is no significant correlation between with pulmonary function and general characteristics such as frequency -of fire fight, smoking, blood pressure ant other subjective symptom.
2. The mean values of pulmonary function test are as follows FVC(L) : 3.67¡¾056
FEV0.5(L) : 2.53¡¾.0.52
FEV1(L) : 3.33¡¾0.54
FEF 200~1200(L/sec) 5.95¡¾2.05
FEF 25~75%(L/sec) 4.27¡¾1.21
3. Each results of pulmonary function test was decreased significantly according with aging.
4. Multiple regression analysis, with ventilatory capacity as the dependent variable, using age and height as independent variables resulted in the equations shown as follows.
FVC= -0.0280A+0.0481H-3.4490
FEV0.5=-0.0301A+0.0302H-1.4697
FEV1= -0.0359A+0.0428H-2.5854
FEF200~1200=-0.0838A+0.0697H-2.7271
FEF25~75% =-0.0620A+0.0406H-0.2850
5. The mean value of blood lead levels was 14.35¡¾7.53¥ìg/dl
